HARRIS RAYMOND
BERG
September 14, 1907 - April 13, 2001
Phoenix, Ariz---Harris Berg, 93, died April 13. Born in Minot, N.D., he
graduated from high school and worked in his family's grocery store. He played
semiprofessional baseball and was scouted by three major league teams. In 1937,
he moved to Eugene, where he worked for J.C. Penny and McDonald Wholesale,
transferring to Salem in 1952. He belonged to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran
Church in Phoenix and the Masons. He married Beatrice (Campbell) in 1939; she
died in 1993. He also was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Berg, Ft. Collins, Colo; son, Richard of
Phoenix; brother Maynard of Portland; four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. Celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy
Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, where he was a member.
BEATRICE MAE CAMPBELL BERG
April 7, 1916 - April 28, 1993
Beatrice Mae Berg, 77, of Salem died Wednesday. She was born in Willmar, Minn., and moved to Salem in 1953 from Eugene. She attended the University of Oregon and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She married Harris R Berg on June 11, 1839, in Portland.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen L. Demarais of Salem; son, Richard H. Berg of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Dorothy Ayers of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, Wallace J Campbell of Chevy Chase, Md., and Romane McDonald of Spokane,.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden mortuary. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund, 1274 Cunningham Lane S, Salem, Ore. 97302 or C.A.R.E. USA, 660 First Ave., New York, N.Y. 10016.

ELMER JOSEPH BERG

Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 13 in Milwaukee Lutheran Church for Elmer
Joseph Berg, who died Feb. 8 in a Milwaukee hospital. He was 70. Mr. Berg was
born Sept. 24, 1909 in Fairview, N.D., the son of Hans and Emelia Berg. He moved
to Eagle Creek in 1938 and to Milwaukee in 1952 and worked as a salesman for
North Coast Seed Co. and United Grocers. Mr.. Berg is survived by his widow,
Helen D. Berg of Milwaukee; a daughter, Joyce Summers of Portland; sons Don D.
Berg of Tucson, Ariz., Gene Berg of Greeley, Colo., Mark J. Berg of Seattle, and
Bruce G. Berg of Milwaukee; sisters Helen Heath and Evelyn Thomas, both of
Portland; brothers Maynard Berg of Portland and Harris Berg of Salem, and 10
grandchildren. Internment was in Terrace Lawn Cemetery.
HELEN DOVEY GARDNER BERG
April 27, 1915 - January 23, 1990
A memorial service for Helen Dovey Berg of Southeast Portland will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Milwaukee Lutheran Church. Private internment will be in the Little Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Garden. Mrs. Berg died of causes related to age Tuesday in a Portland hospital. She was 74. She was born April 27, 1915 in Minot, N.D. Her maiden name was Gardner. She married Elmer J. Berg on Aug. 22, 1934 in Lansford, N.D. Mrs. Berg was a homemaker. She had lived in Portland since the mid 1950's. She was a member of the Milwaukee Lutheran Church and had done volunteer work for the Milwaukee Loaves and Fishes. Her husband died in 1980. She is survived by her sons, Donald of Tucson, Ariz., Gene and Bruce, both of Milwaukee, and Mark of Seattle; daughter, Joyce Summers of Portland; brother, Gerald Gardner of Ashland; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Oregon Affiliate of the American Heart Association.

A memorial service for Helen Christine Heath, a Northeast Portland resident who
had worked as a beautician out of her home for many years, will be at 2 p.m.
Thursday in Bethany Lutheran Church. Private entombment will be in Rose City
Mausoleum. She died of causes related to age Tuesday in a Portland care center.
Mrs. Heath was 79. She was born May 6, 1912, in Milton, N.D. Her maiden name was
Berg. She married Melvin L. Heath on Oct. 7, 1933, in Glenburn, N.D., and moved
to Portland that same year. Mrs. Heath was an active member of Bethany Lutheran
Church and had served as church organist for a number of years. Survivors
besides her husband include her sons, Roland J. of Cloverdale, Dennis L. of
Salem and Curtis L. of Troutdale; brothers, Harris Berg of Salem and Maynard
Berg of Portland; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family
suggests remembrances be contributions to Bethany Lutheran Church.

MELVIN LEONARD HEATH
November 18,1911 - May 5,1995
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 1995, in Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Mr. Heath died of lymphocytic leukemia May 5 at age 83. He was born Nov. 18, 1911, in Round Lake, Minn. He retired in 1974 as a salvage clerk for Union Pacific Railroad. Mr. Heath married Helen Berg Oct. 7, 1933; she died in 1991. Survivors are his sons, Roland J. of Lincoln City, Dennis L. of Salem and Curtis L. of Troutdale; sister, Pearl Chambers of Portland; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Interment in Rose City Mausoleum. Remembrances: the church memorial fund. Arrangements: Hustad Funeral Home.

Maynard R. Berg died Dec. 3, 2007, at age 91.
Maynard Berg was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Milton, N.D. He moved to Portland in
1938 and served in the Army during World War II in England. He graduated from
the University of Portland and was an underwriter for Rathbone, King & Seeley
Insurance Services. In 1944, he married Marjorie Mellor; she died in 1985.
Survivors include his daughter, Jan Sinclair; and son, Paul.
Remembrances to Legacy Hopewell House Hospice. Arrangements by Caldwell's,

EVELYN LOUISE BERG THOMAS
February 29,1920 - September 20, 1987
Memorial service for Evelyn Louise Thomas, who died Sunday in a Portland nursing
home, was Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church. Graveside service was in
Willamette National Cemetery. She was 67. Mrs. Thomas was born in Milton, N.D.
and moved to Portland at age 16. She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for
Duo-Fast Oregon for 15 years, retiring in 1960. She also lived part time in
Tolovana Park. She is survived by her husband, Howard of Portland; sons, John
Howard Thomas of Roseburg, and Gary Alan Thomas of Portland; brothers Harris
Berg of Salem and Maynard Berg of Portland; sister Helen Heath of Portland, and
five grandchildren. The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to
Oregon Stroke Club Association, 1040 N.W. 22nd Ave., Portland, OR, 97210.

Howard Meredith Thomas, was born on April 13, 1915, in Portland, Oregon to John and Edith Thomas. Howard passed away on December 25, 2011 at his residence. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Thomas. he is survived by 2 sons, John Thomas of Roseburg, Oregon and Gary Thomas of Portland, Oregon, brother, David Thomas of Rogue River and sister Elizabeth Gordon.
