James
Wesley Clelland was killed during the Civil War on 7 Dec 1862 at the
Battle of Prairie Grove in Arkansas. He was 24 years old. James left
behind in Iowa a widow, Rachel, and two sons, Hiram Webster age 4 and
John William age 2.
Rachel
later remarried and through time the spelling of the name of James' sons
became Cleland instead of Clelland. Their descendents have carried the
Cleland name ever since.
