Obituary: Prairie View News, March 20, 1903:
Mrs. H. A. Smith, Dead
Maria Louisa Robb was born in Mercer county Ill., Mar. 26, 1846, and was the oldest daughter of J. L. and Mary Robb. She joined the Congregational church during her 18th year and continued a faithful Christian to the end. She was united in marriage to Henry A. Smith Oct. 14 1868 at residence of her parents at Viola Ill. They came to Prairie View Kans. in the Spring of 1780 (note: should be 1880) where they resided until last Sept. The deceased was the mother of 8 children which are all living, except the youngest who died when two years of age. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife, a faithful mother, always loving and cheerful, and was consecrated to her Master. She died Feb. 25th at her home in Bostwick Neb. Weakness of the heart and kidneys caused her death.
It was with sorrow, we received the notice of Mrs. Smith's death, on our last press day. The deceased was well known in this community, and her loss will be felt by her old neighbors and friends, as well as those of her own family. All knew her to be a good Christian woman, and through her gentle care and administrations, Mr. Smith, who is an invalid, had the best of care and imbibed such cheerfulness, as can come only from a loving and patient wife. Mr. Smith has the sympathy of all his old-time friends and neighbors of Prairie View in his hour of sorrow.
