1-Herman Elmer Wolf, son of Jacob Wolf and Jennie Joanna Fisher, was born on 6 Mar 1882 in Hooppole, Henry, Illinois, died on 1 Mar 1953 in Sterling, Whiteside, Illinois at age 70 and was buried in Hooppole Cemetery. 

Herman married Lillie Louise Berge, daughter of Charles Berge and Katherine Witzel, on 8 Sep 1904 in Henry County, Illinois. Lillie was born 17 May 1877 in Henry County, Illinois, died in a car accident on 25 Aug 1958 in Wyanet, Bureau, Illinois at age 81 and was buried in Hooppole Cemetery. They had one daughter: Rose Anna Mundt.

2-Rose Anna Mundt Wolf was born on 30 Oct 1907 in Henry County, Illinois, died on 13 September 1980 in Sterling, Whiteside, Illinois and was buried in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. 

Rose married Carrie S Robbins, son of Oral James Robbins and Edith Eva Turner, on 14 March 1942 in Palmyra, Marion, Missouri. Carrie was born on 23 Dec 1897 in Illinois, died on 18 Nov 1872 in Sterling, Whiteside, Illinois at age 74 and was buried in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. They had one son Gary.

Herman Elmer Wolf was born March 6, 1882 in the Yorktown Township, near Hooppole, Illinois to Jacob and Jennie Fisher Wolf. The 1900 census shows Herman living with his parents in Yorktown Township in Henry County, Illinois. On September 8, 1904, he married Lillie Berge. Lillie was born May 17, 1877 to Charles and Kathryn Wetzel Berge and died August 25, 1958 in Bureau County, Illinois. They were parents of one daughter, Rose, who married Carrie Robbins.  Herman and Lillie were engaged in farming in the Hooppole area and later moved to Sterling, Illinois. The 1910 census shows Herman and Lillie living in Fairfield Township, Bureau County, Illinois.  Herman’s occupation is listed as farmer.  The 1920 and 1930 census’ list Herman and Lillie living on a farm in Yorktown Township in Henry County.  Herman’s occupation is listed as farmer. The 1940 census lists Herman and Lillie living in Hooppole, Illinois in 1935 and living in Sterling, Illinois in 1940.  Herman’s occupation is listed as traveling salesman for 1935 and 1940.Herman died March 1, 1953 in Sterling, Illinois.  Herman and Lillie are buried in Hooppole Cemetery.

FORMER HOOPPOLE RESIDENT DIES IN STERLING March 1, 2018

Herman E Wolf of Sterling died Sunday, March 1 in his home after an illness of several years.  The body was taken to the Melvin Funeral home, Sterling, and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, March 4, at the Calvary church in Hooppole of which he was a member.  Burial was in the Hooppole cemetery.  Mr. Wolf was born March 6, 1882 at Hooppole the son of Jacob and Jenny Wolf.  On September 8, 1904 he married Miss Lillie Berge at the home of her parents.  They were engaged in farming and moved to Sterling in 1934 from the farm southeast of Hooppole now tenanted by Arvid Goembel.  He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rose Robbins who has been living at home since her father’s illness, one grandchild, Gary Robbins, two brothers, Albin of Prophetstown and Fred of Hooppole, two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Polson of Tampico and Mrs. Alma Houch of Hooppole.

MRS LILLIE WOLF

STERLING – Services for Mrs. Lillie L. Wolf, 81 of 306 13 Ave., Sterling, will be at 3 (daylight time) Thursday in the Calvary EC Church in Hooppole.  The Rev. R. W. Zetterberg will officiate and burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery.  Calls may be made at the Melvin Funeral Home in Sterling until 11 Thursday morning.  Mrs. Wolf was killed Monday in a car-truck collision near Wyanet in Bureau County.  She was born May 17, 1877, in Hooppole, daughter of Charles and Anna Wetzel Berge.  Mrs. Wolf was a member of Calvary EC Church in Hooppole and had lived in Sterling the last 20 years.  She was married to Herman Wolf on Sept. 8, 1904.  He died in 1953.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Robins of Sterling, and a grandson. 

Note:  Lillie’s mother, Kathryn, was listed as Anna Wetzel Berge in Lillie’s obituary.  Her tombstone has her as Kathryn.

A QUIET WEDDING

September 23, 1904: 

On Thursday evening September 8, 1904 occurred the happy union of Herman E Wolf and Lillie L Berge at the home of the bride’s mother in Hooppole.  At 7:30 o’clock while the wedding march was being played by Mrs. George Wiederhold the happy pair took their place under a beautiful arch of evergreen dotted with white asters where the ceremony was solemnized in the presence of immediate relatives by the Rev. WF Berge of Fair Haven, brother of the bride and assisted by Rev CS Fehr, of Hooppole pastor of the bride and groom.  After the ceremony the young couple received the congratulations and best wishes of all present.  The bride was handsomely dressed in a gown of pure white and carried white asters while the groom wore the usual black.  The bride is the devoted and youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Berge, of Hooppole, the groom a prosperous young farmer of good habits, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wolf, also of Hooppole.  Both young people are faithful members of the United Evangelical church and are highly esteemed by their many friends who join in wishing them a successful and happy journey through life.  Mr. and Mrs. Wolf were remembered with many useful and costly gifts by all of the guests present.

      An 81 year old Sterling woman was killed Monday in a highway collision near Wyanet in Bureau County. Mrs Wolf of 306 13th Ave was born May 17, 1877 in Hooppole, Illinois a daughter of Charles and Katheryn Berge. She was a member of Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hooppole and a resident of Sterling for the past 20 years. She was married to Herman E. Wolf Sept. 8, 1904.
