Passing of Mrs. Jacob Wolf

Mrs. Jacob Wolf, one of this community's most esteemed and respected women, passed away Monday, September 26, 1910, following a prolonged period of illness. For about seven years Mrs. Wolf has been in feeble health. Every effort to bring restoration of health and strength was unavailing and the best medical skill failed to stay the progress of her illness. Mrs. Wolf, throughout her long period of illness, suffered much but was uncomplaining, and patiently and with fortitude submitted to the will of Providence, being strengthened and sustained in her affliction by her faith in God and His promises. Mrs. Wolf, when still a young girl was converted during the ministration of Rev. A. Fuessel in Geneseo, about thirty years ago. She united with the Evangelical church and until the end of her years was faithful to the vow then made. She was a devout Christian and always had great pleasure in the study of the Bible and in doing her part in carrying forward the work of religion. She was a fond and loving mother, a devoted wife and true in her friendships. Deep sorrow is felt for the sorrowing household and the relatives of Mrs. Wolf.

Mrs. Jennie Fisher Wolf was born at Dayton, Iowa, November 7, 1860. Her father dying when she was still very young, her mother, Mrs. Dorothy Fisher, married Barnhardt Wolf and deceased accompanied the family to Hooppole which has since been her home, She was married to Jacob Wolf February 19, 1880, and to this union were born nine children of whom two preceded her in death, one child dying in infancy and a daughter, Dorothy, passing away at the age of five years, a year ago last May. The children surviving with the father are, Herman E., Albert H. and Leroy J. of Hooppole, Alma E., Frederick W., Vernon L. and Ruth, at home. There survive also two grandchildren, also the mother and the following sisters and brothers, Mrs. J.J. Holzinger of Geneseo, Mrs. Loretta Baker of Washington state, Henry Fisher of Ogden, Utah, and Max Fisher of Hooppole; also the following half sisters: Mrs. Edward Seyller of Hooppole; Mrs. C.F. Wolever pf Geneseo, and a half brother, Benjamin Wolf of Hooppole. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Calvary church by Rev. ?  Banman, assisted by ?

Jacob Wolf, son of Jacob Wolf, Sr. and his wife Margaret, was born in Yorktown Township, January 17, 1859 and passed away at his home in the village of Hooppole May 9, 1923 at the age of 64 years 3 months and 22 days.  The entire village and community was shocked by the sudden departure of our brother which was caused by a stroke of paralysis.  His early life was spent upon the farm until about eighteen years ago when he moved to the village of Hooppole where he resided until death.  He gave his heart to God early in life under the ministry Rev. A. Fussels and was a faithful worker in the church of his (choice?) until the very end.  He filled the following offices in the church; class leader, trustee, steward, and Sunday school teacher.  He was always very faithful in attendance at all the church services.  Mr. Wolf served in some of the township offices and for eighteen years was an agent for Mutual Insurance Company of Phenix, Loraine and Yorktown townships.  On February 19, 1880 he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Jennie Loretta Fisher at Geneseo, Rev A Fuessels officiating.  To this happy union 9 children were born.  Two preceded the father in death. Who remain are Herman, Albin, Leroy, of near Hooppole, Mrs. Alma Houch of near Hooppole, Frederick of near Annawan and Vernon of near Tampico and Mrs. Ruth Polson of Rockford. In September 1910 the Heavenly Father saw fit to call home the loving wife and mother leaving the father and seven children. In May 1, 1923 (note marriage date is actually 1 May 1913) he was again united in marriage to Miss Louise Shaffer and they lived happily together until the end came. He leaves bereaved by his departure one brother William G Wolf of Geneseo and one sister Mrs. Henry Ott also of Geneseo, a widow, seven children, thirteen grandchildren, many other relatives and a best friend. There is no prison for this soul …(The remainder of the obituary is not legible due to poor quality of the copy)
