Christian was born in Norway around 1875 and was either a widower or divorced.  Little else is known about Christian at this point and in the 1940 census Margaret is going by Margaret Wolever again and working as a maid in Elmhurst, Illinois so perhaps they were divorced as well.

Biography

Margaret Wolf, or Maggie as she was called by family and friends, was born 14 November 1877 on her parent's farm in Yorktown Township in Henry County, Illinois. The closest town was Hooppole. Margaret's mother, Dorothea Grabenhorst Fisher Wolf, and her father, Barnhardt Wolf, had both been previously married and she was their youngest and last child. Her mother and her first husband, Jacob Fischer, had six children: Henry was born in 1856, Caroline Dorothea was born in 1858, Jennie Johanna was born in 1860, Frederick Jacob was born in 1863, Ferdinand Maximillian (Max) was born in 1865 and Loretta was born in 1868. In 1868 Jacob died and left Dorothea a widow. In 1871, Dorothea married Margaret's father, Barnhardt Wolf, a widower with seven children, three daughters of whom were still loving at home, and moved with him from Iowa to his farm in Yorktown Township. Dorothea was Barnhardt's third wife. His first wife, Mary Ann Luther, died in 1864 at age 32. They were married in 1849 and had  six children: Louisa born in 1848, Caroline born in 1850, John born in 1851, William born in 1855, Elizabeth, born in 1859 and Mary Matilda (Tillie) born in 1862. In 1867 he married his second wife, Celia Balcom Heitz who also died. They had one daughter, Linda, born in 1867.  Dorothea and Barnhardt had three children together: Benjamin born in 1872, Lovina born in 1874, and Margaret (Maggie) born in 1877. In all Margaret had fifteen full and half siblings.

On 5 Sep 1898 in Hooppole,  Margaret married Calvin Franklin Wolever, son of Robert William Wolever and Roena Foster. Calvin's family farm was in the adjacent township of Atkinson. Calvin and Margaret lived and farmed in Atkinson for over twenty years. Their only child, Robert Wolf Wolever, was born during this time in 1900.Margaret and Calvin divorced sometime in the early 1920's. After the divorce, Calvin moved to Minnesota and married a widow Jessie Miller. He lived in the Austin, Minnesota area for many years and died there in 1965.

Margaret moved to Chicago and married Christian S Mathesen in 1929 when she was 51 and he was 53. Christian was born in Norway around 1875 and immigrated to America in 1881. In the 1930 census he and Margaret are living and farming in Prophetstown. Christian list his age at first marriage as 23 so he was either a widower or divorced before he married Margaret. Little else is known about Christian at this point and in the 1940 census Margaret is going by Margaret Wolever again and working as a maid in Elmhurst, Illinois while Christian is living alone and working as a laborer. Both list their status as single so they it appears they were divorced as well.

Margaret eventually moved to Sacramento, California to live near their her Robert. In the 1953 Sacramento City Directory she lists herself as the widow of Calvin working as a nurse.  Margaret died on 30 Jun 1958 in Sacramento at age 80 and was buried in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Calvin died in in Fillmore County, Minnesota on 9 Mar 1965 at age 89 and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery along with his wife Jesse.

Book Excerpt

CALVIN FRANKLIN WOLEVER.

History of Henry County
Volume 2 Part 2
By Henry L. Kiner

The farmers of Henry county are as a class far beyond the average Illinois agriculturist. Owning magnificent land that yields large annual incomes, they are able to adopt scientific methods in their work and buy the latest improved machinery. Therefore their farms are models and their standing is unexcelled in the state. One thus representative of so much that is good in farm life is Calvin Franklin Wolever, of Atkinson township, who was born in Cornwall township, this county, June 16, 1874, a son of Robert William and Roena (Foster) Wolever, a full sketch of whom appears above.

The education of Mr. Wolever was secured in the common schools of Cornwall township, and he has always been connected with agricultural pursuits. He first purchased land in Rock Island county, where he farmed far two years, then sold and purchased a second farm in this county. Later he came to the village of Atkinson and, after resting for a year, bought land in Geneseo township. Spending four years upon it and improving it considerably, Mr. Wolever again re-moved to Atkinson township, which is now his home. He owns two hundred acres of fine land on section t, where he is carrying on general farming and feeding stock extensively.

On September 8, 1898 , he married Margaret Wolf, who was born in Bureau county, Illinois , November 14, 1879 , a daughter of Barnhardt and Dorothy (Cravenhurst) Wolf. The mother, a native of Germany , came to this country and is now living in Yorktown township, this county. The father who was also a German, died in 1893. He and his wife had three children, namely: Lavina, the wife of Edwin Seyler, of Hooppole, Illinois; Margaret, the wife of our suject; and Benjamin, the only son and eldest child, who takes care of the mother, they living together. Mr. Wolf had been married before and had other children. Mr. and Mrs. Wolever have one son, Robert Wolf, born November 1, 1900, in Cornwall township. He attends Frog Pond school in Atkinson township and is a very bright little fellow.

Mr. Wolever has worked since he was eight or nine years of age and since his marriage has been ably assisted by his wife. For some years he dealt in farm lands, buying, improving and then selling. Mr. and Mrs. Wolever have a beautiful automobile and enjoy the comforts their income warrants. They are constantly improving their home and when through will have one of the finest in Henry county's farming districts. Mr. Wolever is a broadminded, liberal man, universally liked and a power in his community.
